On a bitterly cold day, I set out to investigate some places where I might be able to find green ribbon in time to take some pictures for Your St Patrick's Day assignment.

I went to John Lewis store in the next town, and they had ribbon for sale on spools. I've bought fabric by the metre there before, but their ribbon was pre-packaged. On their website they do have a good selection of widths and colours to buy, but I couldn't confidently identify the perfect shade of green.

I checked a couple of gift shops in the same town, just to see if by chance they had ribbon that would be suitable. One had no ribbon, the other had spools but it was the wrong kind; it was plastic, thin, crinkly -- suitable for tying around a present and making in to bows and curling in to rosettes -- but not suitable for decorating Your cock. I decided it was time to move away from the high street and try some independent shops. In the UK, it would seem most haberdashery shops are to be found on the ends of a parade of shops, perhaps where the rent is lower.

I found Broadway Bargains, run on that day by two lovely, grey-haired ladies. The stock was eclectic; the walls lined with pegboard. They had ribbons in different widths and colours, generally a soft polyester double satin. One of the women helped me select an emerald green colour, 15mm (6/10 inch) wide, and cheerfully measured off 1 metre (1 yard) in length. She asked for just 28 pence and offered me a bag.

I also went to check out Lisa's, where I found a similar help and range of ribbons were available. I couldn't improve on my first purchase so I left the shop without making a purchase.

I was shopping in early February and no St Patrick's Day motifs were to be found, but I did find a good selection of ribbons and colours in the small independent haberdashery shops.
